SHELBY COUNTY DRUG SUSPECT ARRESTED AFTER STANDOFF
Columbus police took a Shelby County suspect into custody after a short stand-off Friday afternoon. The action forced police to evacuate several people from the Applegate and Charleston Square Apartments, and put Smith Elementary School on lockdown for over 2 hours. Lt. Matt Myers of the Columbus Police Department says Richard Myers, of Edinburgh, came out after negotiators spoke with him for several minutes. Three other people inside the apartment were questioned at the scene and were not incarcerated at press time. The lockdown at Smith Elementary was lifted around 1:30 Friday afternoon. No injuries were reported.
