NEW COURT SECURITY SYSTEM SURPRISES SOME
The Shelby County Courthouse security renovation is complete, and the west entrance has been reopened. During the first week the system was in operation, 42 people were turned away from the courthouse because of banned items. Ammunition, a rifle bolt and marijuana are some of the contraband found with the equipment. About $127,000 was spent for the door security system, metal detector, X-ray machine, ID printer and stock, video monitoring system, hard drives, and uniforms and equipment for officers.
